Senwes together with several programme partners recently shared information pertaining to the programme’s new impact direction at a launch event held at SuperSport Park in Centurion.

A new look and focus for a new chapter

The programme’s new logo not only celebrates the longevity of the programme, which is the only one of its kind within the South African farm school sector, but also visually marks the start of a new and exciting chapter in terms of reach and impact for the programme.

In terms of the programme’s multidimensional focus, this year will see a roll-out to rural communities in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Northern Cape and it will supplement the activities and interventions that are already vested in the North West and Free State provinces.

According to Sanmarie Schlebusch, Manager: Corporate Marketing at Senwes and the Project Leader of the Senwes Spinners Farm School Programme, an exciting time lies ahead for the programme and its partners, collaborators and participants.

Creating well-balanced individuals through sport

The first call of business is the launch of the Senwes Spinners Cricket Development Programme, that will see both girls and boys between the ages of 11 and 13 years take part in a physical and educational sport development initiative.

Through this initiative Senwes and its partners support the notion that physical activity is vital to the holistic development of children by not only fostering their physical health, but also their social and emotional wellbeing.

According to Jacques Faul, CEO Multiply Titans it is a well-known fact that the benefits of sport reach beyond the impact on physical wellbeing and in the process, the value of the educational benefits in driving societal change should also not be under-estimated.

In light of the above notions, the Senwes Spinners Farm School Programme aims to unite the rural youth, motivate them to participate fully in the development of their respective communities, eradicate poverty and inequality, and foster a winning culture in their schools and immediate surroundings.

A proven track record

Most recently, Senwes teamed up with Cricket South Africa (CSA), the Free State Cricket Union, Perfect Bounce and Thobo Trust to install cricket nets and a mobile kitchen at the Itokisetseng Combined Farm School in the Wesselsbron area. The school is in close proximity to Senwes’ Losdoorns silo.

This development is aligned with a bigger overarching drive by CSA and the Department of Basic Education (DBE) to establish development hubs across the country to fast-track the growth of development cricket in schools.

Itokisetseng is the second farm school to benefit in this way from the Senwes Spinners programme, after Rabana Primary School in Ventersdorp also received a cricket facility and a mobile kitchen during 2019. According to Schlebusch the idea is to replicate these hubs at other farm schools across the programme’s geographical footprint.

Representatives from Senwes, Momentum Multiply Titans, the ITEC Free State Knights and the North West Dragons were present during the launch event.
